每日读英语新闻8： 全球气候危机 - 知乎

　　前几天东京奥运会播放了John Lennon的Imagine, 听得时候无限感慨。

　　一边放着这种“人类命运共同体、无国界、不分你我、地球是一家”的音乐，一边又是“你争我夺、明枪暗箭抢荣誉争金牌”的热闹场景。真心不止一点点ironic。

　　列侬的理想最终也不过沦为另一个乌托邦的空想了。

　　上学期口译课上，听了超多的国际政治视频，有很多大咖都在努力提醒世人，当务之急是全球气候问题，而不是无休无止的地缘政治斗争。可惜，声音不够洪亮，或当局者选择性忽视。

　　今天来看看，世界气候已经到了怎样糟糕的境地吧。

　　题目：Climate change: At-risk nations fear extinction after IPCC report

　　1.Nations vulnerable to climate change have warned they are on the "edge of extinction" if action is not taken.

　　翻译：与气候变化命运攸关的国家发出警告：如果不采取措施，它们不久将从世上消失。

　　vulnerable: 脆弱的，易受伤害的Old people are particularly vulnerable to the flu.「老年人尤其易受流感侵害。」

　　2.The warning by a group of developing countries comes after a landmark UN report argued that global warming could make parts of the world uninhabitable.

　　翻译：在联合国发布了一份意义重大的报告后，一些发展中国家发出了这样的警告。联合国的报告指出全球变暖可能会让地球部分区域不宜居住。

　　这句话如果根据源语言的结构顺序来翻译的话，中文会变得极其不自然，所以做了语序上的调整。以及，a landmark UN report 这个名词短语给它动词化了。若果直译的话，就会是「这份警告是由一些发展中国家发布的，在一份联合国发布的极具意义的报告之后，联合国报告认为...」这种翻译非常死板，且不符合中文说话的顺序和逻辑。

　　3."We are paying with our lives for the carbon someone else emitted."

　　翻译：我们在用生命为他人排放的二氧化碳买单。

　　这里的carbon都是指carbon dioxide, 二氧化碳。

　　emit指排放（尾气/气体）

　　4.The Maldives is the world's lowest-lying country and Mr Nasheed said the projections by UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) would be "devastating" for the nation, putting it on the "edge of extinction".

　　翻译：马尔代夫是世界上海拔最低的国家。Nasheed先生说，根据联合国政府间气候变化专门委员会的推测，（气候变化）对马尔代夫产生的影响将是毁灭性的，会让该国濒临灭国的边缘。

　　5.According to the latest IPCC report, heatwaves, heavy rainfall and droughts will become more common and extreme. The UN's chief has labelled it a "code red for humanity".

　　翻译：政府间气候变化专门委员会最近的报告指出，热浪、暴雨、干旱将会越来频繁和极端。联合国主席（chief有很多意思，此处暂不明确是主席还是秘书长或是...）认为这是自然对人类发出的“红色警告”。

　　6.That could lead to sea levels rising by half a metre, but a rise of 2m by the end of the century cannot be ruled out.

　　翻译：那样会导致海平面上升半米，但是本世纪末海平面上升2米的可能性为零。

　　rule out...排除（某种可能性）

　　7."Today's report makes for sobering reading, and it is clear that the next decade is going to be pivotal to securing the future of our planet," he said.

　　翻译：他说：“今天这份报告能给人们带来清醒的认知，毫无疑问下一个十年对我们保证地球的安危至关重要。”

　　make for...向…前进；有助于英文释义：To move in the direction of some place, often hastily or in order to flee something

　　pivotal非常重要的（建议记住，还有crucial, 不然每次只会写important/significant）

　　8.Under the 2015 Paris Agreement, more than 190 governments agreed the world should limit global warming to 2C or ideally 1.5C above pre-industrial levels.

　　翻译：根据2015年制定的《巴黎协定》，超过190个国家达成一致意见，认为世界需要把全球升温控制在2摄氏度以内，理想状态是比工业革命前上升1.5度。特朗普在任的时候退出了《巴黎协定》，拜登上任后又重新加入了。

　　9.But the new report says that under all scenarios, both targets will be broken this century unless huge cuts in carbon take place.

　　翻译：但是新报告指出，所有的预测都显示，这两个目标都会被打破，除非超大幅度控制碳排放。情形不容乐观

　　10."This is the critical decade for action, and COP26 in Glasgow must be a turning point in this crisis," Mr Kerry said.

　　COP（Conference of the Parties）是指197个国家每年一次的首脑峰会，讨论气候变化和各国的应对方案、承诺和行动。

　　第26届缔约方会议将于2021年10月31日至11月12日在苏格兰的格拉斯哥举行。
